  • Tuscan Style Heavenly Kitchen!!!!!, I tell my husband almost everyday how much I love my new kitchen - which he "built" for me! I had the typical 60's or 70's kitchen which only had enough space for one cook and where you felt isolated from the rest of the home. We demolished a cinder block wall that kept me divided and lonely from the dining/living area and created this fabulous Great Room. Now, when we have gatherings, everyone always sits around the huge island in the center. Couldn't be more thrilled!!!!!, Kitchens

  • New Closet, With storage and closet space a significant problem in my 3 bedroom home, I decided to turn my adjoining spare bedroom into a large walk in closet. I designed this floorplan as an open room so everything is in full view. I knocked out the partition wall between the 2 rooms and installed a tray celing to give more height. My goal was to build a space that was over the top and a focal point of the room. The design incorporates trapped doors behind the hanging clothes for additional storage. I designed and completed this project myself with a helping hand from my father. , Closets & Utility

  • 35 year old re-do before and afters. Just some ideas., This is a 35 year old 2-story that we gutted and made some up dates to a traditional style home. We built it to stay and then got the bug to build new. Here are just a few ideas that you can do to make yours fresh. I put it on paper and Les from L&M Remodeling put much of it to reality. Much thanks to Les for his outstanding craftsmanship! This house sold in one week kind of a bitter sweet thing., Living Spaces

  • St. Vincent de Gore Theater, Garage space converted into a home theater. We did it all from walls out, including the design of the 'rock' walls. Backstory for the room is that it is a converted dungeon, hence the NeoGoth look, and the name comes from our mutual fondness for Vincent Price and going to the local St. Vincent de Paul thrift stores as children., Home Theaters

  • now-its-too-nice-to-cook-in kitchen, recently purchased 1970 contemporary house. Small kitchen with dropped ceilings, old oak cabinets, worse ever vinyl subfloor as floor and no room for more than 3 people to eat. Dinning room was through small door around corner. we raised ceilings to match pitch of surrounding rooms, exposed corner to open up to dinning room, added transom windows and used stain glass panel that had been left in the house that matches front door., Kitchens

  • Tamsin's Kitchen Design, After 20 years it was time to give our Massachusetts colonial house the kitchen it deserved! I checked out many designers but decided that I knew what I wanted and could do it myself. With the help of Crown Point Custom Cabinets and various other craftsman I pulled together the kitchen my family needed. Turning a cramped dysfunctional kitchen into my vision required a 225 sq ft addition off the back of the house. What a difference a few feet makes! Tying the addition into the colonial was interesting but we did it with a few hours of help from a good architect!, Kitchens

  • Hello Sunshine: Laundry/Bath/Mud Room, Our utility space linking the garage to the kitchen contains the laundry, a half-bath and a quasi-mudroom. The finishes were pure builders stock with some little stencils added by a previous owner...Yawn. To create a more functional space I replaced the bathroom vanity with a kitchen cabinet, allowing space for a small utility sink and a tall pullout-sprayer faucet. A new floor, paint, lighting, mirror, drying rack and accessories completed the remodel. Now when we come home, our entry into the house from the garage says, Welcome Home Sunshine!, Bathrooms

  • Artful kitchen design, When I designed this kitchen, I felt it really needed to open up, but be functional as well. Losing the upper cabinets on one side of the kitchen was, perhaps, stretching design principles - but was necessary to the overall feeling of space.

As you will see in a 3D version of the design, there was a pot rack over the lighted shelf. In the end we decided to leave it off for fear of hiding the special tile design.

It is this precarious balance between function and art that makes designing spaces challenging and exciting. The kitchen works great, and is a wonderful space to live and work.

And as it turns out, I have a pot rack for sale!

  • "Optimista" Kitchen Makeover, Very small budget. We did almost all the work ourselves, including design and building the barstool, table/chairs and bench. We painted existing cabinets and added new cabinets and quartz countertops (no granite!!) with wine rack for extra space and storage. It's part of an overall total house remodel, so we maintained the exposed, stained concrete floors throughout (very easy to clean). Cheerful, Earthtone colors with accent match the rest of the house. We just wanted it to look less "Kitcheny"., Kitchens

  • Ann's Room, My best friend of 25 years wanted me to help her redo her master bedroom. Her room was dark, cluttered and depressing. Ann is diagnosed Stage IV Breast Cancer. I wanted to redo her room for her giving her a "sanctuary" to retreat and rest. Ann wanted lots of bling and described it as Hollywood Glamour. She had not had a chest of drawers in 18 years! And the old ceiling light fixtures had gasped it's last a few years before. I had 3.5 days to start and finish the work before flying home to Tooele, Utah., Bedrooms
