  • Ugly Fireplace Goes Modern, A 25 year old brickface wood fireplace, that was converted 5 years ago to a heavy duty gas fireplace. Not only did the brickface cover the fireplace, but it covered a 20 ft. ledge (bench?) upon which sat the ugly red brick fireplace with a crazy hinged front that housed more audio visual controls than we ever needed. After living in the home 7 months, and falling for a beautiful mosaic glass/stone tile that went with our other long-time favorite, honey onyx, we got to work - ripped out the red brickface (easy) reframed the fireplace, re-wired the tv that hangs above it (not so easy), hid all the tv controls behind a secret panel near the floor, and got a dynomite tile guy to install., Living Spaces
