  • Living Room Renovation, This project was a complete home renovation. This living room was outdated with green carpet and small sliding doors that led to a sun porch which made the space feel very dark. We added a wall of doors to the sun porch which brought in natural light. We also added a hallway with built-ins and a powder room that leads to the kitchen. This really enhanced the traffic pattern throughout the first floor. The stair case was also completely rebuilt., Living Spaces

  • Northwest Contemporary Kitchen Remodel, We purchased our outdated 1964 home 10 years ago and have been remodeling it slowly. We recently finished the kitchen/laundry addition. One of the main drawbacks of our home was the fact that there was no laundry room. The washer and dryer were previously located in a small closet off of the main hallway.

After much thought, we decided to include the washer/dryer in the new kitchen area. We'd seen this many times in European homes and decided it would be a good fit for us as well. So far, I've really enjoyed it. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and it has been really handy! Also the high counter tops over the washer/dryer makes a great buffet area, easily accessible to the patio area (coming soon...)

By far, the most difficult item for me to pick out was the counter tops. I really love the look of cement but was nervous to use it because it's not as durable. After months of looking at different materials we finally decided on quartz counter tops by Caesarstone in Raven. Hard to tell in the photos, but it's a very soft black/deep gray. We went with stained concrete for my table though and I absolutely LOVE it! In fact, it's my favorite part of the kitchen!

I've spent countless hours both watching HGTV and browsing here on the website getting ideas for the remodel. RATE MY SPACE was the source of much inspiration and I've been looking forward to finally adding my own photos to it :)

Our goal was to create a warm, cozy kitchen area that all four of us could enjoy. Used warm colors to help counter the LONG, gray Oregon days. We're happy with the results!

Thanks for taking a look :)

  • Disasterous2Glamorous-Living/Dining B&A, It's a good thing RMS doesn't have smellevision! This dated house was occupied by tenants for many years, and needed to be totally rennovated from floor to ceiling before putting it on the market. We removed the 70's railing, scraped the popcorn celings, retextured the walls before painting, added crown moulding, new wood floors, gave the fireplace a complete makeover, and really changed the whole feel of the house by opening up a wall with an archway. We couldn't be more thrilled as it sold the same day, with 15 offers and for $55k over asking price! We're still in shock!, Living Spaces

  • Fun Family Room, We transformed this space from a dark and dreary room into this light and bright space we want to spend all our time in. We painted the paneling and the ceiling and painted the trim work and beams white for a crisp contrast. The hardwood floors add a lot to this room., Living Spaces

  • Southwestern Transitional Basement Remodel, This basement was empty and the clients desired a space that they could retreat to and entertain comfortably in. We reframed the basement to an open floor plan concept and added coffered ceilings in most rooms. The Southwestern color scheme was inspired as they used to live in New Mexico and loved the rich colors used out there. They are more transitional people so we used lots of clean lines and contemp elements to give the basement a clean but inviting feel, Living Spaces

  • Fresh & inviting bathroom retreat, We updated a late 80's bathroom which had a large jetted tub with tile surround that encompassed most of the bathroom. We used a free standing tub with floor mounted plumbing fixtures. The shower was enclosed and very claustrophobic. We opened it with frameless glass shower doors and beautiful tilework. The mirrors were updated by framing them and the countertops, plumbing and light fixtures were all updated. , Bathrooms

  • From French Country Kitsch to French Country Elegance, We decided to overhaul our severely outdated and equally tiny kitchen and ended up adding 300 sq ft to our house, improving our kitchen, dining room and outside space. We lived in our house during the process. The process affected most of our first floor and I found myself pregnant with a two year old, living with my husband in one room-doing dishes in the hall bathroom and grilling dinner on our driveway. We extended our kitchen, added a pantry, breakfast area, bar area and reconfigured our dining room and the layout of our deck. , Kitchens

  • My 80's LR, that yes folks I did actually choose that wallpaper as well as the carpet. Finally it all came down in Dec. 2012. So long awaited for, My home is a basic ranch home. Yes, I did actually choose this tired, sad wallpaper though after all it was the 80's. In fact when we began the renovation there was 4 layers of wallpaper. Everything I did was on a very tight budget. The only furniture that I am able to use is my sofa that I had just bought in 2011, so I just changed out the pillows, lamps, tables, & still looking for other accessories. I'm not a fan of white walls, so I went with Valspar Zanzibar Spice. I also went with the top down/bottom up blinds in an expresso which almost matches the walls perfectly. My contractor replaced all of the casings after painting them white, to show the contrast. My windows are 34 X 77 with 6" between them, so since they do go to the floor, I keep the tops down 18", they are light filtering the LR gets wonderful natural light. I never thought refinishing the hardwoods would even be an option, since there was the orange tile ( 4' X 4' on the wall as well as the floor, with no board down to protect the hardwoods) There was a free standing fireplace that I just had removed & actually paid 2 different shady contractors that said I would never know the flu had went through the ceiling. It was awful. So, I found a awesome contractor, one of my priorities was to tear the ceiling out. Good by popcorn & bothched up ceiling repair. Though when tearing out the orange tile he found live 200 wires.Sure wasn't expecting that. I had all new mill work installed which really changed the look of this plain room, Baseboards and all trim.I am a bit hesitant to go crazy putting nails in my new drywall. Though I have 2 walls that I have yet to put the finishing touch's on.. There is a 3' X 9' hallway that leads to the bedrooms. I bought a very nice 3' X 3' mirror though I am undecided as to where to hang it. Once the hardwoods were refinished to my contractors high standards, 4 coats of poly went on. I bought a tan with a light brown design area rug as well as a matching runner. I have yet to hang 2 curtain rods I plan to put a 24" rod at each end of the 3 windows to put a white/tan panel with grommets with a circular deign only for interest & texture. I am open to comments as well as suggestions. I will add that I am a divorced woman that has been battling leukemia for 18+ years so I have to reply upon a contractor to do quality work. (at last) Hiring a designer is not in an option for my budget. I watch lots of HGTV online as well as on TV., Living Spaces

  • "Optimista" Home Office Makeovers, As part of our whole-house remodel, we turned 2 existing bedrooms into home offices. We removed the carpeting to expose and stain the concrete floors. We painted the rooms and installed new rust-colored curtains, as well as trim at the ceiling perimeter. We assembled the furniture from IKEA and other office-supply sources, and finished the rooms off with area rugs for a warm touch., Home Offices

  • Master Bath from UCKY! to Show Stopper, The original bathroom had old oak cabinets, brass hardware and fixtures with a small shower and bathtub that was ready to break through the bottom. The counter tops and shower had old 4x4 ivory ceramic tile with a dusty rose accent trim. The floor had old carpet that obviously didn't belong in a bath area (uck!).

The remodel consisted of tearing up the old carpet, enlarging the shower area, replacing the small bathtub with a new large jetted triangular tub with in-line heat, a Toto toilet with a self lowering seat. We replaced the carpet with top of the line travertine with a high profile glass accent. In the shower, an accent of the same glass tile was inset to create a "waterfall" effect. The ceramic tile counter top was replaced with crema marble from Spain. We increased the height of the counter tops to 35" and replaced the old worn oak cabinets with beautiful cherry with mortis & tenan joints, self closing drawers and pull-down section below each sink for small item storage. In the low middle section, the original design was open for sitting. We inserted a cabinet for additional storage. We replaced old bronze fixtures with oil rubbed bronze Showhouse by Moen, Felicity Collection fixtures and the old faux bronze hardware with substantial rectangular, oil rubbed bronze drawer and cabinet pulls.

  • 1960's blah to AWESOME!, We found mold behind the cracked grout in the shower so decided the entire bathroom should be gutted. My husband and I removed EVERYTHING down to the studs. We moved the wall in the tiny shower stall taking room from a linen closet that was way too big and made a lovely modern spa bathroom with heated floors and warm bright tile., Bathrooms

  • From Plain and Simple to Simply Stylish, The kitchen remodel was part of a three room renovation project in our home. We had plain-Jane linoleum flooring, laminate countertops, and a top-mount stainless sink. It looked great when we first moved in because we were coming from a rent house built in the 50s. Now after watching HGTV for the last few years, we bit the bullet and started renovating! We are thrilled with the results. We still have a few things to do, like change the window treatment and overhead lighting, but for now, we are basking in what we think is a successful kitchen renovation. See what you think and let us know., Kitchens

  • 100 year old home, Another parcial gut job. This house was bult around the turn of the last century. It is in the front yard of the Kentucky State Capitol building. We wanted to return it to it's original glory. Marble floors, lots of chrome, a tile design from years ago, wainscotting and a vanity right out of the 20s. Fun project!!, Bathrooms
