Over the last year, I transformed a strip of grass and a narrow pathway in the front of my house into a beautiful courtyard with a bronze gate, tiled patios an outdoor fireplace and a Koi pond. No I don't do this for a living, but I am open to any job opportunities. HGTV are you listening?.

This past winter we completed a kitchen addition with doors that opened out into mud : We've spent the last few weeks redoing our back yard.
The project included large boulders being brought in, new decks and bridges, dry stream bed, sprinkler systems, lighting, a fountain on the patio, concrete patio, new beds and plantings.
All in all we're really happy with the space. We already had a nice canopy of mature trees and in a few years, the new beds should fill in nicely.
We were inspired for this project by our love of the Portland Japanese Gardens. The foliage and simple lines seem to compliment nicely with northwest design.

We created a space that was urban and dramatic yet simultaneously warm and inviting. A flexible outdoor living room where we are equally comfortable entertaining 50 guests or 5 or just us unwinding in the hot tub or sipping a glass of wine and watching the sunset over the city. The incredible plexi panels were designed by Johnsen & Schmaling located here in Milwaukee WI.

My little Deck & Patio. I was being cheap, couldn't afford to extend the patio, so I used step stones and rocks. The deck was built by my neighbor, we are planning on expanding it soon.

Outdoor space is at a premium in the city and we reclaimed this for use where trash cans used to reside and a rusted bike. I did the brick in a weekend and left the distressed wall "au natural"

We decided to redo our backyard after finding dry rot under the deck. It was a perfect opportunity to redesign the backyard to update the look and create more space for entertaining.
We now have more deck space after we removed a rarely used hot tub and replaced it with an outdoor kitchen area.
We also removed outdated planting and added plants that will add some color to our yard.
The project took many months, but we'll enjoy the backyard for many years.

More pics to come - this was just finished over the Memorial Day weekend - these are the first pics of our formal English landscaping. Boxwood roses alberta spruce alongside aggregate patio. I was trying very hard to create a unified look and an uncluttered garden - the last thing I wanted was 100s of different plants - I hate when landscapers put in bushes and plants in a million groups. To me it ends up looking like a confusing mess.

Pool and deck were totally redone along with landscaping. Pool was retrofitted with LED lighting and deck was covered in an elegant travertine stone. Landscaping uses exotic plants and trees from South Florida, Asia, Brazil and the Caribbean while breaking the previous straight lines and producing a more "flowing" curved space.

Coming from Tokyo, we have moved in to Buda, Texas May2009.Whereas Tokyo house is so tiny & compact, Texas house is soo huge, having an area of 1.75acre land property, 3600sqft house. After the interior stuffs were settled in, my biggest challenge was the outdoor. The screening n designing of the 545sqft porch became the first 2009project, the fence 2010, the outdoor patio n flowerbeds 2011, the pergola/walkway/other stoneworks March2012. The flagstone patio got the lions share(40% of the expenses because it's 21 "deep. (Our backyard is going downslope, so there are elevations: from the house, stairs,, patio and going down to the stonework campfire area
