That’s exactly what I want to do to our back yard! Ours is just as ugly, but we also have a pool; oh and lots of rock. :o( I will just have to keep wishing as I am disabled and my husband works two jobs :o/ Kudos to you! You’ve done and beautiful job - seeing the diamond in the rough!

Sorry it took so long to answer your question, I used heavy duty post holders 4x6 and lag bolted them into the post on all for sides, I have hung from this pergola and it does not move what so ever. I hope this helps. I have also since installed a kitchen on the patio with a built in BBQ, Fridge and sink. I will post more pictures in the summer...

Hi @ktpenn,
You said that you drilled holes in the concrete and sunk 5/8" x 8" bolts in epoxy in the concrete...
What did you use to hold the posts? metal brackets? It's pretty much strong winds and snow in our area, I'm dying to do a DIY but scared that the elements will make it sway or come crashing down....
But...you gave me some hope on building on top of my existing concrete slab. Now, I just need to make sure it's workable where we live.... sigh~~

Hello,

Glad I could inspire someone! It really was not to hard to build just a lot of heavy lifting. I built mine out of DF#2. I dont live where it snows. I wanted it white so it would show up well next to the house. Good luck building yours, I'm sure it will be just as wonderful

An Amazing job!!! Love the pergola. The color of the house really pops with the white french doors and pergola.Great choice.You have inspired me to build my own over my patio. Curious on your lumber.I am thinking of going with cedar. I live in Ohio so I get all seasonal weather.I will be using 6x6 posts.
