More pics to come - this was just finished over the Memorial Day weekend - these are the first pics of our formal English landscaping. Boxwood roses alberta spruce alongside aggregate patio. I was trying very hard to create a unified look and an uncluttered garden - the last thing I wanted was 100s of different plants - I hate when landscapers put in bushes and plants in a million groups. To me it ends up looking like a confusing mess.

lizkid - thanks - it took a long long time!! (the pool was done a year ago We live in Ohio and are on 10 acres that are mostly wooded. I like formal the hubs likes things more natural....so this compromise of a formal pool landscape that overlooks the wooded non-landscaped areas fit the bill.
