About This Remodel

A remodeled 80's kitchen. We replaced the window, made much larger to enjoy the view, replaced old floor tile with cypress flooring and removed a couple of walls to make area larger. The old cabinets were replaced, new appliances and new lighting. The island is two old Eastern Airline ticket booths and the top of an old drafting table, the island is not completely finished. The walls are bead-board painted with black milk paint. The ceiling is covered with recycled cedar paneling from downstairs. The design was done by myself, no fancy designers... hope I made no serious mistakes!! Let me know what ya think.

What a wonderful job you did. Creative and different. I happen to love the dark walls - as long as you feel it's light enough, that's cool. Probably the only thing I might change (and this might be the part that you mentioned is not completed yet is the base of the island. The white stands out too much, could be darker like floor or walls. Otherwise, spectacular!

I got a lot of ideas from your kitchen, I think you did a marvelous job. I am not partial to the black on the walls, though. like my walls a bit brighter. But, overall, a fantastic job.

Gorgeous, what a fabulous job you did!!!! I've been wanting to do my ceilings with bead-board, but I like your paneling recycling idea, probably cheaper & eaiser to find as a recycle product. Thanks for sharing your talents with use.

The island was made from a few different parts. The main boxes were old Eastern Airline ticket booths from Tampa International. The boxes are back to back. The post were found at a furnture store about 3 years before we had the island built, they were in a pile of "leftovers". The top was from my fathers drafting table. My handyman but all the parts together and I painted and stained it. Glad you liked it!

Wonderful transformation from the old kitchen. I love everything except for the brick backsplash behind the stove and it does feel a tad dark. But it looks amazing in your new kitchen. You should be very proud of a DIY job.
