It's free and easy.
Our old galley kitchen lacked counter space, storage and room to move around. We knocked out the wall between the kitchen and dining room to create a large eat-in kitchen. In keeping with the historic elements of our home, we chose classic style cabinetry, soapstone counter top, and cupboard latches. Walnut furniture topped with Calcutta marble create a large island for a cook top where family and friends gather. To update the space we chose stainless steel appliances, chrome hardware and lots of recessed lighting.
Our personalities were added to the space with modern crystal pendants [bling for me!] and chrome and leather stools [Wall Street masculine for the hubby]. The random width mosaic marble tile back splash completes the look. We saved lots of money by doing most of the work ourselves. We found the hardware online at closeout prices, the appliances were found at 'scratch and dent' outlets, and we've installed the lighting, back splash, appliances, windows, cabinets, hardware, baseboard and crown molding ourselves.
