We purchased this home in September of 2009 and planned to first concentrate on removing wallpaper (on unprimed walls! and painting in all rooms, removing the popcorn ceilings and re-plastering in all rooms, in addition to removing the carpet and replacing with hardwood in all common areas. We also planned to paint the kitchen walls and cabinets to spruce things up a bit while we saved for a complete remodeled kitchen. Unfortunately, we were so tired by the time we got to the kitchen (we were planning a wedding at the same time!, we decided to keep everything as is until we could afford the remodel! FINALLY (2 years later, we can say that we are done!

Boring and neat to Tres Magnifique! Our French Country Style home's kitchen needed to be brought in to the 21st century but we really wanted to keep it in the style and character of the rest of the home.

I love sitting in my living room. People have referred to it as warm cozy inviting etc. I attribute it to the generous amount of wood (mahogany ebony Brazilian cherry American cherry used and the natural stone fireplace.

Space is limited in the city so I was challenged with how to turn a city alley into the zen paradise I wanted. It started with building the actual deck above a garage and turned into my first attempt to put all the knowledge I gleaned from HGTV into practical use. I can't thank HGTV enough for showing me the ropes!!!

This project was a complete home renovation. This living room was outdated with green carpet and small sliding doors that led to a sun porch which made the space feel very dark. We added a wall of doors to the sun porch which brought in natural light. We also added a hallway with built-ins and a powder room that leads to the kitchen. This really enhanced the traffic pattern throughout the first floor. The stair case was also completely rebuilt.

Spring is such a pretty time of year in the Northwest! After surviving the long, grey, wet winters, color is a site for sore eyes come May! Just the beginning of the season...it just keeps getting better! As you can probably tell from every room in our house, we LOVE color!

This past winter we completed a kitchen addition with doors that opened out into mud : We've spent the last few weeks redoing our back yard.
The project included large boulders being brought in, new decks and bridges, dry stream bed, sprinkler systems, lighting, a fountain on the patio, concrete patio, new beds and plantings.
All in all we're really happy with the space. We already had a nice canopy of mature trees and in a few years, the new beds should fill in nicely.
We were inspired for this project by our love of the Portland Japanese Gardens. The foliage and simple lines seem to compliment nicely with northwest design.

We purchased our outdated 1964 home 10 years ago and have been remodeling it slowly. We recently finished the kitchen/laundry addition. One of the main drawbacks of our home was the fact that there was no laundry room. The washer and dryer were previously located in a small closet off of the main hallway.
After much thought, we decided to include the washer/dryer in the new kitchen area. We'd seen this many times in European homes and decided it would be a good fit for us as well. So far, I've really enjoyed it. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and it has been really handy! Also the high counter tops over the washer/dryer makes a great buffet area, easily accessible to the patio area (coming soon...
By far, the most difficult item for me to pick out was the counter tops. I really love the look of cement but was nervous to use it because it's not as durable. After months of looking at different materials we finally decided on quartz counter tops by Caesarstone in Raven. Hard to tell in the photos, but it's a very soft black/deep gray. We went with stained concrete for my table though and I absolutely LOVE it! In fact, it's my favorite part of the kitchen!
I've spent countless hours both watching HGTV and browsing here on the website getting ideas for the remodel. RATE MY SPACE was the source of much inspiration and I've been looking forward to finally adding my own photos to it :
Our goal was to create a warm, cozy kitchen area that all four of us could enjoy. Used warm colors to help counter the LONG, gray Oregon days. We're happy with the results!
Thanks for taking a look :

Great Room that is also the dining room. It's a great example of mid century modern architecture and I tried to incorporate some classic mcm pieces and design in a modern room so it didn't seem themey.

A remodeled 80's kitchen. We replaced the window, made much larger to enjoy the view, replaced old floor tile with cypress flooring and removed a couple of walls to make area larger. The old cabinets were replaced, new appliances and new lighting. The island is two old Eastern Airline ticket booths and the top of an old drafting table, the island is not completely finished. The walls are bead-board painted with black milk paint. The ceiling is covered with recycled cedar paneling from downstairs. The design was done by myself, no fancy designers... hope I made no serious mistakes!! Let me know what ya think.

My husband and I created several large flower beds to compliment our small sloped front yard. We used all native Texas drought and heat tolerant plants--most of which are green all year round.
